Overview

The City of San Jose has chosen to break the Terminal Area Improvements Program into separate and distinct components, or elements.  Each of these elements is funded and accounted for separately and has a separated and distinct schedule caused by the phasing of the work.  Therefore, all of bidding and subcontracting is being done on an element by element basis.  Additionally, the complex nature of the work and schedule restraints require that the work be subcontracted through many separate packages.

• Temporary Terminal C - Construction of new terminal spaces and modifications to existing terminal facilities in order to vacate the northern portions of the passenger check-in lobby that will be demolished in early 2008 in order to make way for the new Terminal B facility.

• New Terminal B - Approximately 160,000 SF of new construction to house a new passenger check-in lobby, baggage claim area, passenger security screening, concourse areas including two additional gates and concessions and a new baggage handling system with inline explosive detection.

• Terminal A Modifications - Expansion of the existing Terminal A complex including 20,000 SF of additions for new passenger check-in lobbies, concessions and holdrooms and renovation of 45,000 SF of existing space including expanded and centralized passenger security screening and upgraded baggage handling system with inline explosive detection.

• ConRAC - Construction of a new multi level Consolidated Rent-A-Car (ConRAC) facility directly East of new Terminal B that will house a large quantity of rental cars and include a quick turnaround facility for servicing of returned vehicles.

• Road & Parking - A phased realignment and adjustment of the current airport loop roads to accommodate the new and modified terminal facilities.

• Baggage Handling System - Installation of new inline EDS baggage handling systems in existing Terminal A and in the new Terminal B and North Concourse facility.
